Acting Mayor of Tangerang Attends XV Gus Dur Memorial and Year-End Prayer

Tangerang, pilarmedianusantara.com – Acting Mayor (Pj) of Tangerang, Dr. Nurdin, attended the XV Memorial of the late KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur), which was combined with a year-end prayer. The event took place at the STISNU Nusantara Tangerang Campus, Sukarasa Village, Tangerang District, on Sunday evening (December 29, 2024).

The event, attended by several scholars and community leaders, featured Pj Mayor Nurdin reflecting on Gus Dur’s legacy as a prominent national figure.

“He was not only a scholar, leader, and a great teacher of this nation, but also a symbol of courage in defending the oppressed and upholding justice for his people,” said Dr. Nurdin.

Furthermore, the Acting Mayor emphasized the importance of preserving Gus Dur’s values, particularly regarding Islam, nationalism, and pluralism amidst Indonesia’s diversity.

“These are the values we must instill to serve as a foundation for building a multicultural nation, especially in Tangerang City,” Dr. Nurdin stated.

As a former Acting Regent of Aceh Jaya, Dr. Nurdin also called on all community members to embrace the principles of tolerance, solidarity, and empathy as taught by Gus Dur.

“We must maintain tolerance, strengthen solidarity, and foster empathy as tangible steps towards creating a better society,” concluded the Acting Mayor.
