Tangerang City,Pilarmedianusantara.com – Entering the first week of 2025, the Central Government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), has renewed its focus on controlling inflation, especially following the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period. Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian conducted inspections and monitored prices and stock levels of essential goods at the Tanah Tinggi Main Market in Tangerang City after receiving a briefing on inflation control developments from Acting Mayor of Tangerang, Dr. Nurdin, at the Tangerang Live Room (TLR).
Tito explained that Tangerang City was chosen as a sample for monitoring national inflation control due to its inflation rate of 1.86%, which is close to the national average of 1.57%, as reported by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
“This visit to Tangerang City aims to examine price increases or inflation. Based on the national data released by BPS, inflation stands at 1.57% year-on-year in December 2024. From the presentation by the Acting Mayor earlier, Tangerang’s inflation rate aligns closely with the national figure. Therefore, we chose Tangerang as a sample and conducted a direct field inspection,” Tito stated during his visit to Tanah Tinggi Main Market on Friday, January 3.
During the inspection, the Minister of Home Affairs highlighted the stock levels and price trends of key market commodities, particularly chilies, onions, and rice.
Tito further noted that BPS data indicates that inflation control in December 2024 showed significant improvement compared to December 2023.
“If we compare the data with December 2023, which also covered the Nataru period, last year’s figure was 2.61%. This means inflation control in December 2024 has improved,” Tito explained.
Inflation control in Tangerang City, specifically, also demonstrated better performance, with the year-on-year rate for December 2024 standing at 1.86%, compared to 3.17% in December 2023.
“From the Acting Mayor’s presentation, I wanted to verify whether the data aligns with field conditions. It turns out that, generally, it does,” Tito added.
The Minister emphasized that the national inflation target range of 1.5%–3.5% is ideal. “This ensures affordable prices for consumers while still covering operational costs for sellers, creating a balance,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Acting Mayor of Tangerang Dr. Nurdin shared that the city’s inflation rate is relatively low.
“Our rate remains within the national scale and is even lower than the inflation rate of Banten Province, which stands at 1.88%,” Dr. Nurdin stated.
